Articles > Pet LossOwners Perspective - Deciding When Its Time To Say Goodbye Knowing when it’s the right time to say good-bye to a faithful companion is one of the hardest and most heartbreaking decisions an owner has to make. Jeanie Farrugia made the difficult choice after her 12-year-old German shepherd, Loganberry, was diagnosed with a brain tumor and started suffering seizures. Her veterinarian suggested medication to control the seizures but it would not have cured the tumor, so she opted against it. The drug “would have made her very groggy and she was a highly alert dog,” explained Farrugia of Melbourne, Australia. “I didn’t want to take that away from her.” Roxy started experiencing stomach problems when she was 14. Sometimes the Jack Russell cross wouldn’t eat for days. “She went down to skin and bones,” says Roxy’s owner, Chris Kendrick of England. But with anti-sickness medication, Roxy lived three more years. Then, one night, the terrier’s back legs suddenly gave out, and the Kendricks rushed her to the veterinary hospital. “I knew it would be cruelty in the extreme to make her hold on any longer,” she said. “In the end, (the euthanasia) was so peaceful and dignified. I really felt I was able to do something for once to relieve her suffering.” ~ Staff, SeniorDogs.com If you would like to include this article on your site please include the following information with the article:
