Articles > HealthSpending Quality Time With Your Aging Canine Spending quality time with an aging canine companion is valuable to owners for different reasons. For some, the shared hours provide a wealth of happy memories for when their older dog is no longer around. Others, like Chris Kendrick, simply spend special moments with their pets because it makes them happy. At agility events, she and her 10-year-old Tibetan terrier mix, Shad, take time out from competing to bask in the warm summer sun and share a picnic lunch. “I suppose happy memories are an added benefit but I do it purely because I like to see my dog enjoying himself,” said Kendrick, who lives in a small village in West Midlands, England. Thousands of miles away in Pomona, California, Aubrey Fine, Ph.D, always gives extra attention to his 14-year-old husky mix, Shrimp, by taking him on strolls or giving him massages. “I think we all want that tenderness,” says Fine, a professor at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, whose primary area of research relates to the human-animal bond. “It doesn’t matter what type of animal you are – human or dog – we always want to know we’re being cared for.” ~ Staff, SeniorDogs.com If you would like to include this article on your site please include the following information with the article:
