Natural Remedies To Tackle Senior Dogs Allergies

If you think your dog is suffering from allergies there are 2 things you can do to minimize the problem:

  1. Destroy the parasites in the environment.
  2. Feed your dog a hypoallergenic diet for some weeks.

There are also several natural remedies that may help senior dogs cope with some types of allergies.  Here they are:

  1. Vitamin E

This vitamin is a verified and dependable source for treating dog allergies.  It is also of great help for dogs that suffer from dandruff; give them an essential fatty acid supplement like Flax regularly, specifically 1 teaspoon per cup of food.

If your dog shows swelling in one or more areas of its body, you should put it on a better diet.  Try giving it more antioxidants, like Vitamin C, E, and some flavonoids.  If the swollen areas are hard and don’t move, the condition may be serious.  If this is the case, take your pal to the vet immediately.

  1. Oatmeal shampoo

Bathe your friend with oatmeal shampoo and running cold water to reduce the itchiness it is feeling.  If the condition is serious, bathe it twice a week.

  1. Calendula ointment

This balm can help with itchiness.

  1. Acid supplements

These relieve allergies that produce inflammation.  Get Omega 3 fatty acids or Flax seeds and feed them to your dog.

  1. Aloe Vera

If the allergy attacks the genital area, wash the skin on that area twice a day with an antiseptic like Hibitane and then apply Aloe Vera.

  1. Vitamin C

This vitamin works great for bladder problems.  Combine it with cranberry juice; it makes it hard for bacteria to survive and reproduce in the urine, and prevents the build up of struvite.
These are natural remedies that can help alleviate senior dogs allergies, however, if the condition worsens or appears to be more serious, look for the vet’s advice immediately.
